What the standard governs

EN 1253 is the European standard for gullies and floor drains. It sets requirements for the drain body, the water seal, and flow performance in indoor wet areas — showers, wet rooms, and sanitary floor points where water needs to clear reliably without odour ingress from the drain line.

It applies across both of WTI's indoor systems: the linear channel range and the point drain range. Both are stainless steel construction, which the standard treats favourably given stainless's resistance to the corrosion and biofilm buildup that can compromise a seal over time.

Linear versus point, by the numbers

The linear system runs 600 to 900mm in length, 75mm wide, 25mm high, with a 50mm pipe height — sized for a continuous run along one edge of a shower floor or wet room.

The point system is compact: 100 to 150mm in both length and width, 25mm high, with a 20mm pipe height — sized for a single floor outlet rather than a run.

The shorter 20mm pipe height on the point system is the detail worth noting at first-fix stage: it needs less depth in the floor build-up than the linear system's 50mm, which can matter on a retrofit or a shallow slab.

Choosing between them

A linear channel is the right call where the brief wants a continuous drain line — walk-in showers and wet rooms where a minimal, uninterrupted line is the design intent. A point drain suits secondary bathrooms, utility floor points, or any wet area where a full linear run isn't justified by the layout.
